Our Story

🐔 Our Story to Cart 🛒

A little family, a few chickens, and a whole lot of love for backyard birds

Kia ora! We’re Mikayla, Madi, and Dad – the team behind Eggs on Legs, based right here in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), New Zealand 🇳🇿

It all started with an idea. We’d been dreaming about getting a pet, but with kids full of curiosity and parents who like a bit of practicality, we figured – why not get pets that lay eggs?

Long before a single chook set foot in our backyard, we came up with the name "Eggs on Legs" – a cheeky nod to the kind of pet that’s cute and useful. We even made a wee ink stamp for fun, thinking one day we might sell a few eggs or crafts at the local Stonefields market. Fast forward a bit, and here we are – four chickens deep and running a store selling products we've used to raise our girls!

🐓 Meet the Girls

We’ve got four feathered family members:
McChicken, Nugget, Coco, and Banana – each with their own quirks, attitudes, and preferred sunbathing spots.

This is Nugget.  She was born in March 2025.

This is her sister, McChicken.

This is Coco.  She arrived as a chick in June.

Along with her sister, Banana.

From that very first egg (found in the corner of the coop, not the nesting box – classic!) to our daily adventures in feeding, brooding, and building the ultimate chook palace, we’ve learned heaps.

And now we’re sharing what’s worked for us – gear we’ve actually used, tested, and rated by our very own flock.

🛒 What We Do

At Eggs on Legs we sell stuff we've personally used in our chicken-raising journey. We’re not here to flog random stuff – everything in our store has a reason to be there. If we wouldn’t use it for our own chooks, we won’t sell it.

Our mission is simple:
Make backyard chicken-keeping easy, fun, and accessible for Kiwi families!

Thanks for stopping by and being part of our chicken adventure 🐥
We hope your chook journey brings you as much joy as ours has.

Ngā mihi,
Mikayla, Madi & Dad
